Radius Benders - The Company

The origins of Radius Benders go back to New Year's eve of 1974 when a fitter and turner by trade from Austria became stranded in Brisbane because of a car breakdown, and needed to find work.

Finding a job with a local exhaust shop, he soon learned that the owners were negotiating to import a tube and pipe bending machine for the business from the United States. There was sufficient machinery available in the business to build a tube bending machine, so it was agreed that they make one. It wasn't very fancy but it worked. It was eagerly accepted by the muffler trade in Australia and Radius Benders became a business entity, manufacturing and marketing tube and pipe bending machines.

From this lowly beginning Radius Benders has grown to become a well respected manufacturer of tube and pipe bending machines in Australia. It currently manufactures over 10 standard models which are used in the exhaust, furniture, engineering and vehicle accessories industries to name but a few. Its expertise is in customising its machines for its customers' special requirements. It seems that no two customers have exactly the same needs. Radius Benders machines have been exported to countries as far as Mauritius and the United Kingdom, to countries in Asia and many outposts in the Pacific region.

Since 1991, Radius benders has been owned by John and Marilen Handley and there is a team of 25 employees. The present owners, being members of the Baha'i Faith, operate the business within the basic principles of the Faith, some of which are honesty, fairness, trustworthiness and truthfulness.

In addition to manufacturing tube and pipe, Radius Benders also undertake contract tube bending and fabrication, general engineering, and manufacture a number of metal parts and products for a variety of customers.
